The Red Fort of Agra
This is a very impressive fort. It’s vast. Already you have to go through 2 huge gateways to go in, followed by a ramp which goes up between 2 walls for 100 to 200 metres and then there’s a third gateway. Inside there are several palaces. Agra was the capital for hundreds of years.
When you get into the fort you come into a big courtyard with a large red enclosure which is actually the public audience hall. It was there that the emperor received the guests that came to see him and dealt out justice.
Behind that there are a number of courtyards, gardens and palaces. There’s a garden where they grew grapevines to make wine. Normally their religion forbade them to drink alcohol but being emperor he could do whatever he liked. In one of the palaces Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his third son Aurangzeb who’d also killed his two older brothers to take over the throne. From his prison Shah Jahan had a beautiful view out over the Taj Mahal where his wife was buried. When he died he was buried next to her.
The photos above are of the first gateway inside the Red Fort and the prison of Shah Jahan inside the fort.

Hello Gabriel,
I am Bernhard, a friend of your Dad, from the University.
Great that you are in India – it’s a very interesting country, with lots of things to see, and wit excellent food to eat.
I was also in India, three times even – because I took two children from India, and I adopted them.
On my last journey, in December 2003, I visited Taj Mahal, just as you did now. It was really great.
Nice that you could touch a cow – perhaps you will meet an elephant or a tiger, too.
Have still a great journey, and have a safe return.
With best wishes,
Bernhard

Bernhard,
Thank you for your comment! Actually I have seen an elephant when I was in Jaipur (and I had a ride on it). I have also seen a tiger in in Ranthambhore, when I did a safari in Jeep!
Greetings from Delhi
